When you donate, we collect the information you enter such as your name and email, and, if you opt to claim Gift Aid on your donation, we’ll also collect your address details in order to allow us to claim the Gift Aid from HMRC. We will store data on your donation in our accounting system to allow us to allocate the funds correctly and for future accounting analysis and audits, as required by the Charity Commission.
We don’t directly collect any bank card details through this website; the secure processing of card payments for donations is handled by Stripe or PayPal. Stripe and Paypal have their own robust privacy policies which you can read here and here.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
If you choose to subscribe to our email mail-outs or newsletter, we’ll collect the information you enter (name, email, etc.) and your IP, which helps us avoid sending unwanted emails to spam email addresses.
You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in the footer of the email, or simply ask us and we’ll unsubscribe you manually.
When visitors submit a query through our contact form, we collect the data shown in the form and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
Cookies help us understand who our visitors are and what they like to browse, and therefore they help us to customise and improve your experience of our website. They don’t allow us to personally identify any visitors and are not harmful to you or your computer/device. You can block cookies by activating settings in your browser that refuse some or all cookies. If you do so you may not be able to access parts or features of our site.
You can see our website Cookie Policy here.
Like many other websites, we track visits to our website using Google Analytics. This data helps us to pick up problems and optimise this website to be as useful to our visitors as possible.
Data collected can include information about your computer, about your visits to and use of this website, your IP address, geographical location, browser type, referral source, length of visit and number of page views. However, all this information is anonymised by Google as soon as technically feasible and we are unable to identify individual visitors through Google Analytics data alone.
You can find Google’s privacy policy here.
We do not and never will sell your data to any other company. We will not email you in the future unless you have given us your consent.
We may provide your email address to digital advertising or social media companies who work on our behalf, such as Facebook and Instagram. This is so we can reach you and others like you with information about how you can support our cause. This data is always provided in an encrypted format and is deleted immediately after use. If you don’t want to see targeted advertising from us on social media, please refer to the instructions provided by the social media site, for example on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Google.
The providers of analytics tools and external media embedded on this site may use data they collect in order to customise content, including advertisements, that they show to you on other sites, just as they do when you visit those sites (e.g when performing a Google search or watching a YouTube video). If you have a Google account you can opt out of Google’s advertising customisation here.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
If you have an account on this site, made a donation, or left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
We’ll only use your personal data on relevant lawful grounds as permitted by the EU General Data Protection Regulation and Privacy of Electronic Communication Regulation. We do not routinely transfer information overseas other than with our executive office, which is based in Taiwan, where our charity operates to help animals in need. We would only otherwise transfer information outside of the UK where such a transfer was necessary for important reasons of public interest or otherwise necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
Where there is no adequacy decision from the UK in respect of a country we intend to transfer data to we will put in place appropriate measures to ensure that your personal information is treated by those third countries in a way that is consistent with, and which respects, UK laws on data protection. If you require further information you can request it from the DPO (see below).
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
When you load our website, the connection is encrypted by a full SSL/TLS end-to-end self-signed certificate on the server, making data transferred between your router and our servers unintelligible to anyone else, so long as your local device security is adequate. Always check, however, that pages on this site load with a padlock symbol in the top bar just before the URL, or start with “https://”. Please inform us if you ever see otherwise.
The transfer of email from this site to our email accounts is also encrypted by a security certificate, but the security of any subsequent forwarding of email is dependent on the security of those respective email services.
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Should you have any privacy-specific concerns, please feel free to contact our Executive Director, Sean McCormack, directly via email at [email protected] or, if you prefer telephone, by calling or messaging +886-920-620-109.
