After his foot got badly maimed by a wire snare, Bamboo's vets suggested amputation. But they kindly agreed to do all they can to at least try to save his leg. And even they were amazed at the results.

A Step Up

When we first met Bamboo, tucked away next to a bamboo grove with a badly injured foot that had been maimed by a snare, the outlook was grim. Fast forward through weeks of uncertainty, a lengthy vet stay, plenty of TLC, and—most importantly—a chance to save his leg, and you’ll find him not just surviving but thriving.

A Chance to Heal

When our vet saw the extent of Bamboo’s injury, she said we must amputate. But, after hearing about our other success stories from just giving it a try, she agreed to do her very best to save his foot. As the infection wasn’t too serious, she said we may as well give it a go. She was amazed when, six weeks later, Bamboo walked out of her clinic on his own feet—all four of them!

A Leg to Stand On

Thanks to a blend of determination (his), medical expertise (our vet’s), and a dash of innovation (not watermelon frost this time but a similar veterinary ointment), Bamboo’s story turned a corner we hardly dared hope for. The leg we feared lost is now a testament to what’s possible with a bit of ingenuity, a lot of heart, and the kindness of strangers like you.

Paws for Thought

Now a regular at The deN, Bamboo’s days are filled with garden walks, occasional runs, many leisurely lounges, all the treatment he will ever need, and a healthy raw diet—far cries from that lonely, difficult life as a young stray and those painful nights caught in a snare. His recovery has been nothing short of remarkable, proving that sometimes, the best medicine is something outside the box.

The Bill Comes Due

But every leap forward comes with its costs. Bamboo’s vet bill, NT$69,940 (that’s about £1,800, $2,350, €2,100, CAD$3,000, or AUD$3,250), is a reminder of the price of healing but also remarkably inexpensive considering he was an in-patient for almost six weeks. It’s a bill we’re proud to pay for Bamboo’s sake, but it’s one we need your help with so that more strays like Bamboo can get the chance to heal that he has benefited from so greatly.
