No Time to Waste
We received a short video from a lady who said she found a puppy next to an abandoned flat-bed truck. She told us she’d moved the barely breathing little girl into the cab. But apparently she was too busy to rush the dying pup to a nearby vet.
Our nearest rescuer was an hour away, up a mountain on another rescue. But this was clearly more urgent, so he sped to the rescue while our dispatcher called around to find if anyone nearer could help. The lady said she would stay with the puppy until we got there.
When we arrived, there was no one there. The truck was almost hidden in a dark patch of land just off a country road. The pup was in the cab, ice cold and barely breathing. Someone had filled a tray with dog food and put it behind her. She was covered with a dirty hand towel and a plastic sheet.
And she was clearly close to death.
We put her in the warmed-up cab of our rescue vehicle and wrapped her in a thermal undershirt for the journey. Our dispatcher found a 24-hour vet but it was 35 minutes away. There was no time to waste.
Our rescuer may or may not have gone through some red lights and got some speeding tickets to get this poor little girl to the vet in time to save her life. She stopped breathing twice on the way there, but some vigorous rubbing brought her back, albeit with only very shallow breathing afterwards. (Some of the video was shot while waiting at traffic lights.)
The vets had been asked to prepare for an emergency and they were great, rushing the pup straight into an examination room to start treatment. We’re also very grateful to the ten other customers who allowed us to jump the queue to give the pup a better chance.
Make a Difference
We’re still at the vet, waiting. No news is good news in cases like this—clearly she’s still alive and in with a chance.
Please, please, please—this is our busiest time of year for rescues, and our team are out at all hours of night and day, seven days a week, doing what they can to save lives; if you’re thinking of donating to an animal charity any time soon, please consider ACT—Animal Care Trust. We have no large salaries and our admin costs are at the low end of the perfect range for animal charities. (DONATION FORM BELOW).
Your donation—big or small, one-time or monthly—truly makes a difference. Please join us in transforming the lives of Taiwan’s suffering strays—and giving little puppies like this girl the best chance possible of a bright, happy future.
Quick Update
The vet just came to explain her condition. She’s extremely anaemic, suffering from a serious babesiosis infection, and in urgent need of a blood transfusion. We’ve told them to go ahead and do whatever they can to save her little life.
We’ve named her Luna. Let’s give Luna a chance! We’ll make another post updating you about Luna very soon.
