So far, Sparkles' vet bill has reached a total of NT$123,165 (£3,232 / US$3,996), but continues to go up every week due to ongoing treatment and tests. Last month, she was rushed to the hospital again due to severe dental bleeding and crashing kidneys, and spent two weeks in the ICU.

Help Sparkles, the Brave Cat, Overcome Her Health Challenges

Sparkles, a sweet cat rescued by Gone to the Dogs at 3 weeks old, is currently facing a severe dental infection that has spread throughout her body, causing her kidneys to start failing. This gentle feline needs our help to battle her health challenges and live a long, happy life with her three blood brothers at The Farm, one of Gone to the Dogs’ sanctuaries in Southern Taiwan.

Sparkles’ Ongoing Battle with Kidney Failure and Dental Infection

In December, during a pre-op evaluation for dental surgery to remove most of her teeth, blood tests revealed that Sparkles was in kidney failure due to the severe dental infection. She was immediately admitted to the ICU, where a feeding tube was inserted. For the first few months, she spent more time in the hospital than at home on The Farm. However, thanks to a combination of four medications, antibiotic injections every 8 hours, subcutaneous fluid IVs daily, steroid injections and an all-raw diet, Sparkles’ health has stabilized in recent months.

Regular Blood Tests and the Road to Dental Surgery

Sparkles requires blood tests every two weeks to monitor her kidney functions, anemia, and infection levels. Once her kidneys stabilize, she will be able to undergo dental surgery, which could potentially cure all her other health issues. Despite her health challenges, Sparkles is a true warrior and wants to live the rest of her life at The Farm, enjoying the sun and playing in the garden with her brothers.

Sparkles’ Vet Bill and How You Can Help

So far, Sparkles’ vet bill has reached a total of NT$123,165 (£3,232 / US$3,996), but continues to go up every week due to ongoing treatment and tests. Last month, she was rushed to the hospital again due to severe dental bleeding and crashing kidneys, and spent two weeks in the ICU. Since then, she has been back at the vet for blood tests and a sonar scan after not wanting to eat at all. The sonar showed that she has now developed kidney stones.
